Peroni Girl

The Peroni family were charismatic, spontaneous and passionate in their attitudes and behaviours. Francesco Peroni founded Birra Peroni, the biggest Italian brewery of its time and the business was going well, but the family liked to challenge conventions and had greater plans in mind. They were always passionate about sailing, the sea and all things nautical. Following the success of the SS Rex, and surrounded by a world of changes in 1960’s Italy with cultural icons and iconoclasms abounded, the family decided to create an icon of their own; the first Italian premium lager for the most demanding consumers. An aspirational lager that would embody the sophistication, confidence and innovative character of the great Italian icons of style. A beer which would represent the optimism, creativity and enthusiasm of the era in which it was born.

Wine of the Month

Villa Maria New Zealand In 1961, at just 21 years of age, George leased five acres of land from his father in Mangere, Auckland and started off with just an acre of vines. He harvested his first grapes in 1962 and made his first wine under the name Villa Maria.

Throughout the 1960s Villa Maria was a one-man band, with George’s wife, Gail, supporting him in his venture. He made dry red and white wines, sourcing grapes from the greater Auckland regions. In the early 1970s he started to employ staff and the company began to expand rapidly.

Today, Villa Maria employs more than 250 permanent staff and exports wine to over 50 countries worldwide.

Villa Maria Winery - New Zealand

Villa Maria Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc: Fruit for this wine was sourced from vineyards across the Marlborough region in the Wairau and Awatere valleys spanning a range of different meso-climates. Careful attention was paid to vine health and cropping levels to give the vine the best chance to optimise the season and develop strong, clean flavours.

Villa Maria Marlborough Pinot Noir: Fruit is sourced from a number of vineyards in the Awatere and Wairau Valleys of Marlborough. The sites are all different making their own unique impression on the final blend. All of the vineyards are low yielding, shoot and fruit thinned, and leaf plucked to ensure flavour ripeness.

Whisky of the Month

 Glenmorangie Header

The Original Glenmorangie Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky 10 year old

The original expression of elegant, floral spirit and the real backbone of the Glenmorangie range. A ten-year-old single malt, Glenmorangie Original is produced by marrying the delicate spirit that emerges from Scotland's tallest stills, with first and second fill American white oak casks.

Maturing for ten long years in a range of ex-bourbon casks such as our famous slow-grown and air-dried 'designer casks' from Missouri, that our raw spirit develops a perfect balance between sweetness and complexity. Resulting in a mature spirit that is soft, mellow and creamy. Perfect for enjoying at any time.

Tasting Notes

Aroma    Aroma: The scent of citrus and ripening peaches is softened by the aroma of vanilla.
Taste    Taste: First, vanilla is detected on the tongue before it ripples along the palate bringing a burst of flowery fruitiness.
Finish    Finish: About a minute after tasting, you are left with a clean and salving aftertaste with hints of orange and peach.
