Hoegaarden Belgian White Beer

One case of Hoegaarden

Brewed with the finest ingredients, including real Curaao orange peel, a dash of coriander and a blend of wheat and malted barley for a refreshing flavor and spicy nose, Hoegaarden was awarded a gold medal at the World Beer Cup 2008. It is known for its superior refreshment and its distinctive smooth, sweet and sour taste. Also, it somewhat lacks the bitterness typical of many other beers. Hoegaarden is 4.9 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).

The Hoegaarden monks were the first to discover the unique recipe for wheat beer around 1445. That’s a long time ago. Belgium was still part of the Netherlands and the Netherlands still had plenty of colonies. And as true tourists the Dutch often brought wonderful and odd things over from their excursions abroad. So it came to pass that exotic spices became readily available in our parts. All to the benefit of our beloved monks.

Historical sources tell us that the first wheat beer was incredibly sour. That is until the Hoegaarden monks started experimenting with orange peel and coriander from the colony Curaçao: a divine discovery that led to the world famous Hoegaarden recipe. Had Masterchef been around back then, the judges would surely have called it a masterpiece.

500 years of hard work went into making this beer that features the aroma of orange peel, coriander and herbs that the merry monks imported from sunny Curacao. Speaking of which: pouring Hoegaarden is just like letting the sun fall into your glass: light yellow and naturally murky. And the soft foam adds a cloudy finish. And then there’s the soft taste, light and slightly sweet and sour and with subtle citrus notes… ah, just go ahead and taste it instead of reading about it!

Brewing Hoegaarden is no simple matter. Respecting the unique brewing process and carefully mixing the finest natural ingredients is the only way to obtain the intriguing character and surprisingly refreshing taste. The beer is fermented twice but isn’t filtered. Hence its cloudy appearance and smooth texture.

Chianti wine comes from the Chianti region of Tuscany, Italy. Only wines from this region can properly be called Chianti, although some other areas are using the name on their labels.

Whisky of the Month

Angels Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Angels Envy Bourbon Whiskey

Why is it called Angel’s Envy? As bourbon ages in the barrels, it’s drawn into the charred white oak during summer months and it recedes back into the virgin barrels during winter months. For each year of maturation, 5% of the barrel’s bourbon is lost to evaporation. For generations, this precious lost bourbon has been called the Angel’s Share. After tasting his creation, Lincoln Henderson reckoned that the angels might have wanted a bigger cut. Thus, Angel’s Envy was born.

When other whiskeys stop Angel's Envy Finishes

There’s bourbon. And then there’s divine inspiration painstakingly crafted into a spirit so sublime you’ll want to share it with the world. We make the better one. Angel’s Envy is what happens when 200 years of bourbon tradition meet an independent master craftsman’s instinct to improve. It’s a total return to the art of craft first, hand-blended batches of 8 to 12 barrels at a time.

It's not perfect until it's finished

Each barrel of Angel’s Envy is personally sampled throughout every step of aging, and then repeated over the entire tasting process for a special finish. Rooted in 200 years of bourbon heritage, Angel’s Envy is an artisan, hand-finished spirit that isn’t afraid to improve on the classic tradition. Inspired by legendary Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson’s lifetime spent crafting fine spirits, Angel’s Envy is a masterpiece. The 5% of spirit lost each year during barrel aging is called the “Angel’s Share.” After tasting the finished bourbon, Lincoln joked that we’d finally gotten a better deal than the angels. And so Angel’s Envy was born.
